i style bands (the preparation for SXSW continues)

08/03/2010

Styling a band is a little bit more complicated than it seems.  Slap a dress on the girl, slap some pants and some deconstructed t-shirts on the guys and you’re good to go, right?

Oh, hell no.

Let’s try about a full time job’s worth of research, scouting boutiques, attending band practice to get a feel for the upcoming show, nevermind taking into account individual tastes and clothing preference mixed with my own glorious ideas only to tear it down and bring something coherent and exciting to the table.  Each member of the band has personal shopping sessions that include fittings, funny reactions to some of the pics, lots of vogue poses in the mirror and may or may not include a margarita to top off the marathon shopping day.

Supporting local biz is huge in my everyday existence.  For the Soldier Thread Stubb’s Show, I scouted over 15 local business’ and ended up purchasing from 6.  Six totally local, small boutique owners that need our support.  And that’s not counting the photographers, videographers, hairdressers, make up artists and Stubb’s employees that are all in this thing together.  Frankly, I’m tired of saying goodbye to the lifeblood of Austin.  I’m here to be an ambassador for my city.

I have a few photos from the very talented (and newbie local to Austin) Adam Kealing, band photographer.  Photos are from local favorite venue, Stubb’s BBQ, to highlight some of our very groovy local boutiques picks on our very talented band, the Soldier Thread.

I’ve been obsessed over the tribal craze since last Fall.  I finally wore my huarache inspired flats and I’m loving them.  Aren’t you proud that I got them in black?  I finally broke down and got a pair of sensible flats instead of my usual picks of red, gold, silver snakeskin, turquoise  . . . These babies will be paired with some wild colors over the next few months, I can’t wait to see what outfits are inspired by them.  Now to find some amazing funky bright colored jewelry . . .

the onslaught continues

a.k.a.*  the underlying current of life.

SXSW is just around the corner. Preparations begin for The Soldier Thread’s SXSW showcase.      Spring 10 arrivals are dropping daily and I’ve got a lot to say about that (I promise).  Oh yeah, and I’m helping prepare for a clients visit to Europe.  And of course my day job, which has been full of amazing previews of Fall ‘10 but also eating into my off hours.  I’ve got a few cards up my sleeve that I’m excited to share . . . just not quite yet.

However, I am exited to share a music video that was released today by The Soldier Thread titled “In Spades”.

Hope you enjoy!

After two years of searching I have found the perfect slouchy hat.  I got grey until Fall ‘10 when the rest of the colours will be released, then I’ll get black.  Because, like I said, I’ve been searching for two years and the one I found is the BEST!!!  Side views coming soon. <3

*Many thanks to the best hat finder, my dear friend J.
